The first thing that caught my mind with this article was the notion that people tried to create more URL components that could define websites, such that big companies couldn't monopolize the biggest SEO keywords on a limited set of components. It is interesting because it seems to me that there is a very limited set of commonly used URL components today but it's something I would have to do more research on because the article doesn't go into it. It does go on to list some pretty neat web pages that were created in the early days of the internet which makes me feel nostalgic for a time when I hadn't even been born. The concept of "cyber rape" that gets brought up also caught my eye because in the 90's when chat rooms were still new, this concept was cutting edge and people were experiencing modern social problems with the internet for the first time. The fact that the article included links to some of the websites it mentions is cool. I will say I'm happy there isn't a link to the mentioned Deep Throat in the Ascii film, which seemed like an unnecessary shout-out for that particular artist. I think that rendering things in Askii is not as cool as say rendering the same image as pixel art. The final thing in the article that really intrigued me was the mention of Heritage Gold, a software that I had never heard of. I was surprised to read that it came out in 1998 after Photoshop, which I would have thought have come out sometime in the 2000s. This software sounds more like a weirdly socially aware art project since it replaces commands with "terms pregnant with racial and class significance". The one link I followed was the potato shredder, and I liked how old the page looked, it felt like I had a fossil on my screen.

That's all I have to say about the article!

Here are two of my favorite internet games from the 2000's! (linked)
